Totally Tejano Fridays continue on March 27 at Tejano Ranch with Austin greats Yayo Castillo y Grupo Rumores and Los A-T Boyz. There will be lots of love for these local groups as they both work the crowd full of longtime fans at the north Austin Tejano nightclub.
Rumores has been a fixture in the Austin Tejano music scene for decades, playing at countless venues, festivals, jamaicas, and private parties. Bandleader and lead vocalist Yayo Castillo is known for his strong, smooth voice and showmanship. Along with longtime band members Ignacio “Iceman” Castillo (saxophone/vocals) and David Guzman (guitar), Rumores is a tight, talented group that always puts on a great show.
Los A-T Boyz, formerly known as Alma Tejana, are known for their high energy live show, with la familia Rodriguez masterfully working the stage through each cumbia, ranchera, and charanga. Their sound draws from almost every genre, allowing their creative spirit and radiant energy to shine through during every performance and on every recording. The guys released a single last year, “Mundo de Promesa” featuring Cacy Savala.
Long story short: The music will be great, both groups always put on fantastic shows, but I have a feeling the energy will be so positive and fun, the vibe so good, that it will be well worth the cover just to go and hang out.
Tejano Ranch is located at 7601 North Lamar, just south of Highway 183 in north Austin. The doors open at 8 p.m. The cover charge is $10 all night long. 18+ are welcome. The Facebook event is here.
