[11/16] Preview: Ram Herrera at Tejano Ranch

November 14, 2012 By Piper LeMoine

On Friday, November 16, Ram Herrera will be back in Austin at Tejano Ranch. Known as “The Most Wanted Man,” “The Man of 1000 Roses,” and one of Tejano music’s undisputed sex symbols, the San Antonio native will delight fans with his big smooth voice and decades of hits at the north Austin Tejano club.

Herrera is a bonafide Tejano superstar and, having been in the industry for over 30 years, has seen the genre rise and fall while remaining one of its most popular acts. He first gained notoriety as lead singer for David Lee Garza y Los Musicales before embarking on an extraordinarily successful solo career, which has earned him a Grammy nomination and numerous music awards, as well as recognition for his humanitarian efforts.

With a career full of hits, Ram is probably best known for “Amor Querido” and also for the Tex-Mex flavored country hit, “I’ve Got a Never Ending Love.” His latest album, En El Amor, was released in June 2012.

Tejano Ranch is located at 7601 North Lamar, just south of Highway 183 in north Austin. The doors open at 8 p.m. The cover charge is $10 before 9 p.m, and $12 cover after 9 p.m. 18+ are welcome. Visit the event page on Facebook here.

[11/9] Preview: Solido at Tejano Ranch

November 8, 2012 By Piper LeMoine

On Friday, November 9, Tejano Ranch welcomes back the Tejano-Norteño group, Sólido. Borrowing from each genre, which are related, but still quite different, the group describes their sound as “romantic and melodic, ideal for dancing and singing.” The group is often categorized with other Tejano-Norteño groups like Duelo, Siggno, and Intocable.

Based in Rio Grande City, Texas, Sólido has remained popular and productive since the group’s nearly overnight rise to fame after signing with Freddie Records in the early 2000s. Their discography includes the albums Hasta La Cima Del Cielo, Nadie Como Tu (which won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album), Por Ti, Vuelve, En Vivo Contigo, Nuestro Amor, Cuidado, Que Importa, and their latest album, Te Va A Doler.

[11/2] Preview: David Lee Garza y Los Musicales at Tejano Ranch

October 31, 2012 By Piper LeMoine

Banner from Tejano Ranch website features former singer Mark Ledesma.

On Friday, November 2, David Lee Garza y Los Musicales will be back at Tejano Ranch. The group is one of the most successful and popular Tejano bands ever, and is sure to pack the dancefloor with their set list full of some of the genre’s biggest hits.

Over the past four decades, accordionist and bandleader David Lee Garza has built a musical legacy that few can match. While his group has been the launching pad for other legendary performers like Ram Herrera, Emilio Navaira, Oscar G, Jay Pérez, and Marcos Orozco, “DLG” has maintained a distinct sound that some say is quintessentially Tejano: bright accordion matched with keyboards and saxophone to a strong danceable beat. The man himself is also known for frequent collaborations with other performers, including the album Polkas, Gritos y Acordeónes, with Joel Guzmán and Sunny Sauceda, which won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Tejano Album.

Tejano Ranch is located at 7601 North Lamar, just south of Highway 183 in north Austin. The doors open at 8 p.m. The cover charge is $12 before 9 p.m, and $15 cover after 9 p.m. 18+ are welcome. Visit the event page on Facebook here.

[10/26] Preview: Michael Salgado at Tejano Ranch

October 25, 2012 By Piper LeMoine

On Friday, October 26, Tejano Ranch welcomes Michael Salgado to the stage. Always a crowd pleaser, the raspy-voiced southpaw accordionist will be bringing his popular blend of Tejano and Norteño back to Austin, along with a little Country here and there.

Probably best known for his 1995 hit, “Cruz de Madera,” Salgado’s music appeals to Tejano and Norteño fans alike, much like one of his idols, Ramón Ayala. In fact, Salgado even pays homage to Ayala on his album, Homenaje A Mis Idolos, released earlier this year.

Lately, Salgado has tried his hand at country music, recording “Honky Tonks and Cantinas” for his Grammy-nominated 2011 album, No Vengo A Ver Si Puedo…Si Por Que Puedo Vengo. He continues this trend with his new single, “Buscando Amor,” just released this month, a Spanish-language cover of the Johnny Lee classic “Lookin’ For Love” rearranged as a cumbia.

Tejano Ranch is located at 7601 North Lamar, just south of Highway 183 in North Austin. The doors open at 8 p.m. The cover charge is $12 before 9 p.m, and $15 cover after 9 p.m. 18+ are welcome. Visit the event post on Facebook here.
