The Cosmica + Saustex official South by Southwest (SXSW) showcase returns on Thursday night, Mar. 13. This year the showcase is taking place at Rainey Street hotspot, Javelina Bar. One of the most interesting live music showcases during SXSW, the two brands come together to give attendees a sample of the world’s best Latin Alternative while accompanied by some of the world’s best cowpunk-inspired sounds. Only in Texas can that happen without people shaking their heads.
Cosmica, a boutique entertainment management and record releasing company based in Los Angeles, will be presenting the showcases’ three Latin Alternative bands. Mexico City-based blues-rock duo The Copper Gamins open the showcase at 8 p.m. Tucson-based Pachanga alumni Sergio Mendoza Y La Orkesta bring their “Mambo Mexicano” flavor at 10 p.m. Austin’s own Como Las Movies close the party at 1 a.m.
Saustex, the San Antonio-based label that is home to bands like Piñata Protest and Hickoids, will present San Antonio-based rockabilly-fusion band The Hares at 11 p.m. Berlin’s polka-punkeros A Pony Named Olga will perform at midnight. The San Antonio-based TexMex powerpop band, The Krayloas, perform at 9 p.m.
Javelina Bar is located at 69 Rainey Street. Music starts at 8 p.m. 21+ welcome. Visit the official Facebook event page here. Showcase is open to SXSW wristband and badge holders. Single admissions for those wanting to attend without SXSW badges or wristbands will be available at the door. Price TBD. Priority given to wristband and badge holders. Early arrival is suggested as the event is expected to reach capacity.
