[3/13 – 3/16] Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair – Downtown San Antonio

March 12, 2014 By Piper LeMoine

Tejano Fan FairThe same week that Austin has South by Southwest (SXSW), San Antonio has Fan Fair. Taking place Mar. 13-16 and presented by the Tejano Music Awards (TMA), Fan Fair has much of the same ideas as SXSW: multiple stages, scores of up and coming bands, along with some legends, and a multi-day music bender where Tejano fans descend on San Antonio from all parts of the country.

Also similar to SXSW, Fan Fair takes over the Market Square section of San Antonio. Thousands of people pour into the streets to discover new talent and to hear their favorites as well. The artists mingle with the crowd, and have plenty of merchandise available.

Austin-based bands performing at Fan Fair include: Los A-T Boyz, Devin Banda, Angel Y Grupo Vimana, Los Texas Wranglers, Braulio y Fuzzion, Cinco Doce, Conjunto Romo and Tortilla Factory.

Unlike SXSW, however, no wristbands are required. The event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome. Visit the official Facebook event page here or for a complete listing of artists and stages, visit the TMA website.

Piñata Protest release new video for “La Cucaracha”

San Antonio-based punk band Piñata Protest is celebrating the release of their second full length album, El Valiente. The group had their Austin CD release show last week at Antone’s and those of us that went are still hungover. Their live show always leaves us wanting more and always seem to be over too quickly.

Speaking over over too quickly, Piñata Protest released a cool one minute music video for their rendition of the Mexican classic, “La Cucaracha.” One of ten tracks you can find on El Valiente, the music video was shot and directed by award winning filmmaker Jim Mendiola. The video features over 1,000 still photographs and 144 rubber cucarachas in a one minute tour through San Antonio’s West Side barrio.

Watch: “Six is Better” by Ledaswan

November 13, 2012 By Austin Vida Staff

Ledaswan frontwoman Erica Monzon in the music video for "Six is Better"

Ledaswan is a melodic-indie quintet from San Antonio, Texas. Fronted by singer-songwriter Erica Monzon, the band is a multiple San Antonio Current (San Antonio’s alt-weekly newspaper) award winner and have toured with San Antonio rock heroines Girl In A Coma. Their brand of indie incorporates punk elements with hints of The Jesus and Mary Chain. Ledaswan is currently working on a full length album with a 2013 release date.

Last month Ledaswan released their latest music video for their single “Six is Better” off their Num83r5 EP. Directed and produced by Ismael Rodriguez and Richard Jemal, the band wanted the video to have a sort of scary movie feel as they are all fans of horror literature and films. The super-8 effect, black and white graininess and washed out red lighting create the horror movie-like effect.

Watch the video for “Six is Better” below.
