Tonight, Sept. 26, Psychedelic Brazilian-influenced rock come together with a little bit of hip-hop/funk fusion at The Sahara Lounge to kick off the final weekend of the month. Suns of Orpheus and Afrofreque headline a showcase that World Music funksters won’t want to miss. Those who arrive early will be warmed up by the sweet sounds of Brazilian jazz-pop artist Paula Maya.
We’ve often said Suns of Orpheus is Austin’s Brazilian answer to bands like Steely Dan. The group is fronted by Brazilian born guitarist and songwriter Frederico Geib, whom many may recognize from his other bands Macaxeira Funk and Os Alquimistas. Their music fuses together elements of Brazilian-inspired funk, pop and psych-rock. While their music is difficult to classify, it is easy to enjoy.
The Sahara Lounge is located at 1413 Webberville Rd. Doors open at 8 p.m. Music starts at 8:30 p.m. 21+ are welcome. Visit the Facebook event page on Facebook here.
