The Alianza Cultural Latinoamericana is a community of artists and art lovers who promote Latin American cultural expressions in Austin. The organization seeks to promote Latin American art forms to the Hispanic community in Austin and to spread this knowledge with new generations through initiatives like Café Con Letras, their monthly showcase their monthly showcase that brings different art forms to the Latino community to maintain cultural ties alive, vibrant and constantly evolving.
This month’s Café Con Letras is a special one. For five years Ruta Maya housed the monthly event, but it will now close as it transitions to a new location. It will be a celebration and a farewell dedicated to Ruta Maya. Everyone is welcome to participate either with poems, dance, literature, folkloric arts or they can simply come say good-bye.
Although Ruta Maya is closing its doors, with six years of Café Con Letras history, the event will still continue at Janitzio Restaurant located at 600 West Martin Luther King Blvd.
The celebration starts tonight from 7-9 p.m. at Ruta Maya located at 3601 S. Congress Ave. Admission is $5 and free for under 15. For more information call (512) 767-8135. Visit the event post on Facebook here.
