Sunday, Aug. 18, Tejano Ranch will host an all-star Tejano benefit for veteran Austin television producer Robert Rodriguez to celebrate his life and legacy and to raise money for funeral expenses. Rodriguez, who passed away in July, is most remembered for his work on the public access show Estamos en Tejas. The show recorded some of Tejano music’s biggest stars in the studio and at live music events, and continues to be frequently played on Channel Austin, the city’s public access channel.
The groups scheduled to perform include some of Robert’s immediate family (Brother Paco and nephews Raphael, Paquito and Fernando of Los A-T Boyz), and other longtime friends and colleagues. The lineup may be subject to change, but those scheduled to play include:
Long story short: A great celebration of life for a man who dedicated so much of his time to Tejano music. Aside from those scheduled to play, don’t be surprised to see a who’s who of Austin’s Tejano community on-hand. Note: Tierra Tejana recently came out of retirement for a reunion tour and this will be their first Austin performance in nearly 20 years.
Tejano Ranch is located at 7601 North Lamar, just south of Highway 183 in north Austin. The doors open at 6 p.m. The cover charge is $10 before 8 p.m, and $12 cover after 8 p.m. 18+ are welcome.
