Reggaeton artist Tego Calderón presents his new video “Like We (Ay Dios Mío)” featuring Kafu Banton. The video, filmed in the streets of Panama City, is dedicated to two Latin boxing icons, Puerto Rican Hector “El Macho Camacho” and Panamanian Roberto “Mano de Piedra” Duran, and is meant to display the gentle side of the people who have influenced Calderón’s new music.

“Like We (Ay Dios Mío)” was filmed under the direction of Angel Alexis Bousquet and the production of Santiago Benet, and features Kafu Banton, a reggae artist from Panama who is better known for his debut album The Best of Me, which gave him international recognition.

Tego Calderón is known for combining styles like salsa, dancehall and hip hop in his music. His most recent mixtape “The Original Gallo del Pais- O. G. El Mixtape” was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Urban Album at the XIII Latin GRAMMY Awards. Among Calderón’s future projects is the release of  his upcoming album El Que Sabe, which is due in March 2013 through Calderón’s own label Jiggiri Records.

Watch: “Puedo Prometerte” by Artista Rosario

September 11, 2012 By Austin Vida Staff

Rather than letting himself be engulfed by a troubled family environment, Latin urban artist Artista Rosario looked to Héctor Lavoe, Frankie Ruiz, Marc Anthony, Jerry Rivera and Jay-Z for inspiration. As he moved from city to city, music and writing became his escape from his ever-changing surroundings. Now, the Puerto Rican storyteller has performed in numerous festivals and has shared the stage with Luis Fonsi and Baby Rasta y Gringo among others.

With just two songs, Rosario’s music has made its way into the Latin music scene in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. While on tour in the East Coast, the “Circulos” remix featuring reggaeton artist Yomo gained popularity in the clubs. His other song making headway is “Puedo Prometerte.” Since the music video premiered a few weeks ago, it has already received more than 314,000 views on YouTube. The single is just a taste of what’s to come from his debut album, Teatro de la Mente, due later this year. Until the release of the album, Rosario will continue touring in support of the album.

Watch: “Robin Hood” by Tego Calderón

September 7, 2012 By Austin Vida Staff

Reggaeton superstar Tego Calderón is back this month with a new and original video for his song “Robin Hood”. Directed by Kacho Santiago Lopez, the video is the next installment from a special series of music videos being launched from Calderón’s mixtape, El Original Gallo del País – O.G. El Mixtape (The Original Rooster of the Country – OG The Mixtape), which was launched in June.

Calderón was very involved with the director in the creation of the concept for “Robin Hood”and had the final input for the recording, location and treatment of the video. The video “Robin Hood” contains a preview of the song “Si Yo Fuera Usted” (If I Were You), which belongs to the genre known as “bomba,” folkloric music native to his homeland Puerto Rico. The video focuses on several sociopolitical and economic themes such as the immigration of Dominicans to Puerto Rico. Watch the video below.

Calderón will be participating in the next Jiggiri Records release called La Prole: Con Respeto a Mis Mayores (The Family:  With Respect to My Elders), a folkloric “bomba” album that will be released October 2, 2012.  His own commercial  follow-up album El Que Sabe Sabe (He Who Knows, Knows) is due out March of 2013.

Watch: “El Sitio” (The Spot) by Tego Calderón

August 13, 2012 By Austin Vida Staff

Tego Calderón is one of the most respected reggaeton artists and rappers in the urban Latino market. This month Calderón premiered his new music video for his new single “El Sitio” (The Spot). The single is part of the mixtape, El Original Gallo del País – O.G. El Mixtape (The Original Rooster of the Country – O.G. The Mixtape), released last June. It was the first record Tego has dropped since Contra-Ataca (Counter Attack) which was released in 2008 and is being released through his record label, Jiggiri Records.

The video was directed by Alexis Bousquet and was recorded in Santurce (Puerto Rico). Both the song and video pay homage to Tego’s daily life and the people who inhabit this magical corner of Puerto Rico. Not only is it home to many people, but “El Sitio” (The Spot) is also where many of Tego’s stories, regarding his career and life, sprung from.  Besides being his creative refuge, “El Sitio” (The Spot) is home to his recording studio.

Watch: “Baile De Los Pobres” music video by Calle 13

March 15, 2011 By Austin Vida Staff

In just five years, Calle 13 has transformed from being Latin hip-hop underdogs to standing on top of the Urban Latino music world.  Along with that they have carried a responsibility of speaking for Latin people (for better or worse) in their latest album Entre Los Que Quieran. Their newest single off the album, “Baile De Los Pobres,” is another example of the musical eclecticism that combines a Latin blend of Bollywood and pulsating tropical drums. “Residente” Rene Perez spits about the socioeconomic differences between him and his lover.

The video for “Baile De Los Pobres” was directed by none other other than actor and Mexican heartthrob Diego Luna, who is great admirer of Calle 13’s music.  The video portrays the classic love tale between rich girl and poor guy.  The first few couple of seconds are little revealing to say the least.  A young man(not Perez) is caught cozying up with his woman and then chased down the neighborhood todo desnudo by the rich folks before returning with a group of Indian dancers and bunch of misfits. A grand party then ensues.
