[10/31] Preview: Halloween with Peligrosa at Frank

Austin live music venue and restaurant Frank is one of our favorite places to eat, drink and enjoy live music. For Halloween Wednesday night, the purveyor of the artisan sausage here in The Live Music Capital is playing host to Peligrosa. It is going to be a costume party with a Latino twist.

The Latin DJ crew spins the best music from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa with an electronic twist. Led by DJ Orion, Peligrosa is Manolo Black, DJ Dus (Corpus Christi), Pagame, Sonora (San Antonio) and King Louie. The crew also features friends VJ 4th Wall for visual projections that accompany the music and photographer Marcos Molina, aka Comandante Quito. Señor Quito will be also provide the photo booth services for the party on Wednesday night.

[10/19] Preview: Peligrosa & Mixpak at Red 7

It is that time again you heepsters and electro-cumbia lovers. Austin’s biggest and baddest Latin DJ Collective, Peligrosa, is throwing their monthly party at Red 7 on Friday, October 19. Dance to the best music from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa with an electronic twist. Led by DJ Orion, Peligrosa is Manolo Black, DJ Dus (Corpus Christi), Pagame, Sonora (San Antonio) and King Louie.

This month’s event features special guests from Mixpak Records. Brooklyn bass queen Jubilee returns to Austin alongside fellow Brooklyn-based producer and label founder Dre Skull.  Austin’s own Dubbel Dutch rounds out the Mixpak/Peligrosa collaboration Friday night.  Be sure and give a listen to the audio samplings from the special guests below.

[10/5] Preview: Peligrosa All-Stars with Bombón at Frontier Bar

On Friday, October 5, Peligrosa returns to Frontier Bar for a Latin tropical (pronounced tro-pee-khal) throw down. Known for the biggest Latin electronic dance parties in Austin, Peligrosa always brings the best of electro-cumbia, tropical, moombahton, salsa and hip hop. While Peligrosa is made up of multiple DJs and a photographer, only members Pagame and Manolo Black will be in the house Friday night.

Joining Peligrosa are tropical dance party extraordinaires Bombón. Established in Houston in 2010, Bombón is Space City’s answer to Peligrosa. The collective is composed of DJs Gracie Chavez, Navó, OG Bobby Trill y Panchitron. Be excited as this is a rare Austin appearance for Bombón, but hopefully that will change.

Frontier Bar is located at Webberville Rd. 21+ admitted free. $10 cover for 18+. Party from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. Ladies get complimentary “Vod-Boms” from 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. in honor of special guest Bombón. Visit the event post on Facebook here.

[9/21] Preview: Peligrosa with Money Chicha at Red 7

Peligrosa is an Austin-based DJ collective known for throwing the biggest and baddest Latin-themed electronic dance parties. Their new monthly residency at Red 7 is the place to dance to the best music from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa with an electronic twist. Led by DJ Orion, Peligrosa is Hobo D, Manolo Black, DJ Dus (Corpus Christi), Pagame, Sonora (San Antonio) and King Louie.

The September Peligrosa event will feature Austin-based Money Chicha, Austin’s first chicha group. Money Chicha features Adrian Quesada and other members of Grupo Fantasma, Brownout and Ocote Soul Sounds. Their music incorporates cumbia with psychedelic rock elements including fuzz, reverb and heavy percussion.

[8/31] Preview: Peligrosa at Frontier Bar

The Austin-based Latin DJ collective Peligrosa is hitting the east side once again Friday at Frontier Bar. The relatively new destination bar opened doors in July 2011 and has made its imprint on the local music scene with everything from free shows to giant water slides. We also remember something about a giant dragon. Not kidding.

Peligrosa parties and events are always a crowd pleaser, drawing Latinos and hipsters from all walks of life. Their mash ups include hip hop, soul, funk and electronic dance music mixed with traditional music from Latin America. Along with frontman DJ Orion, Peligrosa members Manolo Black, and King Louie will be spinning Friday night.

[8/17] Preview: “Moombahton Massive” with Peligrosa at Red 7

Los Angeles-based (Washington D.C. born) DJ and producer David Villeagas, more known by his DJ name “Dave Nada,” is known as the founder of the relatively new electronic music genre “Moombahton.” Essentially a mix of Dutch House and reggaeton, Moombahton is one of the country’s hottest electronic-based genres right now. Locally the genre has been brought to the forefront by the popular Latin DJ collective, Peligrosa.

On Friday, August 17, Dave Nada will be joined by DJs Matt Nordstrom (Nada’s other half in Nadastrom) and Sabo for an event at Red 7. The three collectively form “Moombahton Massive.” They will headline after a set from Peligrosa.

Red 7 is located at 611 East 7th Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. $10 cover. 18+ are welcome. This event will be on the outside stage and the entrance is in the alleyway. Visuals provided by 4th Wall. Austin Ticket Giveaway: Outernational at Lambert’s

New York City-based Outernational is one of those rare bands that come around once every few years that makes music that truly crosses borders and musical genres. Their sound is an eclectic mix of The Clash-style punk rock with a little Gogol Bordello swagger. Add some socially conscious lyrics and you have the self-branded “future rock” sound that is Outernational.

The band is currently on tour in support of their new release, Future Rock. The Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave) produced EP is the follow-up to their critically acclaimed Todos Somos Illegales. The Austin tour stop will be this Friday night, August 10, at Lambert’s with DJ Manolo Black of Peligrosa.
