[6/21] Preview: Little Joe y La Familia & Dahebegebees at One-2-One Bar

June 21, 2014 By Piper LeMoine

Little JoeTonight One-2-One Bar on South Lamar will be in the presence of Tejano royalty. Little Joe y La Familia will be heading down I-35 from Temple to take the stage on a double bill with Joe’s son Ady Hernandez and his own band, Austin-based Dahebegebees.

“The King of the Brown Sound” is a fitting nickname for Little Joe Hernandez. The music he has played over his storied career has blended together everything from mariachi, orquesta, conjunto, country, doo-wop, Sinatra-style standards, jazz, rock, salsa, and whatever else sounds and feels right, creating a sound that has resonated with Chicanos for over 50 years. Members of his bands (the Latinaires and La Familia) have been the best of the best and some, like Tony “Ham” Guerrero of Tortilla Factory, have gone on to create legacies and sounds of their very own.

Coming from humble beginnings in the cotton fields of Temple, Texas, Little Joe has seen and done it all. Famous for collaborations and duets, the Grammy winner has worked with everyone from Conjunto pioneer Valerio Longoria to longtime Tejano friends Ruben Ramos and Roberto Pulido to Country legend Willie Nelson to parody master extraordinaire Weird Al Yankovic.

Austin-based soul fusionists Dahebegebees are composed of Ady Hernandez (guitar/lead vocals) Mista Meo (drums/vocals), Aaron Hatmaker (bass), Miguel McDonald (vocals) and Mitch Quintanilla (sax). Their music combines elements of of blues, rock, Latin, funk, and of course, soul. However you choose to label it, there is no denying how much of good time these guys have together making you move. Dahebegebees are performing and touring in promotion of their latest CD, Grateful.

Long story short: A master at work, playing some of the best Tejano music ever made with a lil’ bit of groove to open.

One-2-One Bar is located at 1509 S. Lamar, Suite 600, south of Barton Springs Rd. Cover is $12 before 9 p.m. and $15 afterwards, 21+ are welcome. Show starts at 9 p.m. Follow the Facebook event here.
