Latinitas will be presenting “Makin’ Memes: An Empowering Approach to Social Media” as part of their Parent-Daughter Workshop Series starting at noon until 2 p.m. on April 13. The workshop will be for girls, ages 9-15 as well as their parents.
The workshop will be focusing on one of the most recent internet crazes known as a meme. The definition of a meme is an idea that spreads from person to person within a culture via the internet. In this workshop, girls and parents will take a photo add a message to make their own internet meme that will be uploaded to the Latinitas’ Facebook page.
The workshop will be held at the Round Rock Area Serving Center located on 1099 E. Main Street. The cost is $8. Snacks will be provided. Latinits is a non-profit webzine that hosts many other events with the aim of empowering young Latinas through media and technology programs, along with summer camps and after-school programs. Latinitas has spread to over 10 Texas cities and has served more than 20,000 girls since their start 10 years ago. The Latinitas’ Parent-Daughter Workshops are aimed at parents, guardians, grandparents or other caretakers and the young girls in their life and is meant to be a place for participants to learn new media skill. They will be conducted in Spanish and English in efforts to incorporate the Latino culture.
