The Long Center to present ‘Menopause the Musical’ in September

August 17, 2013 By Alyssa Morin

The Long Center is bringing the Austin community the-proud-to-be-a-woman play Menopause the Musical on Sept. 21 and 22.

The fun, quirky musical written from personal experience by Jeanie Linders tells the story of four diverse women who seemingly look like they have nothing in common, except good taste in lace bras. By chance, they meet at a department store having a lingerie sale (nothing like a good bargain for women to flock to a store) where they end up confessing their hot flashes, forgetfulness, major mood swings, re-occurring night sweats, new chocolate addiction and unflattering wrinkles that bring them together.

Menopause the Musical combines wit and truthfulness to shed humorous light on a woman’s changing body with parodies from the classic and changing times of the 1960s, ’70s and ’80s. The musical embraces this time in a woman’s life where young and old ladies can come together and laugh.

The Longcenter, located on 701 W. Riverside Drive, is hosting the musical on September 21 at 8 p.m. and September 22 at 3 p.m. Tickets run at $39 per person, but groups of 10 or more are eligible for group discounts. For more information about the musical visit the Longcenter website.
