Friday, Jan. 16, may be one of most important and memorable days in the history of Latin music in Austin. Orión García, DJ and founding member of the Austin-based DJ collective Peligrosa, is celebrating the launch of his new Discos Peligrosa record label at Empire Control Room & Garage.
The launch party is not only in celebration of the label’s birth, but also to celebrate the release of the label’s debut album from Austin-based singer, songwriter and musician Kiko Villamizar. Titled La Remolancha, meaning “beetroot” in Spanish, the album is an eclectic fusion of Afro-Colombian and Caribbean rhythms. La Remolancha also features guest appearances from García, Cuban rapper Odaymara “Pasa” Kruda of Krudas Kubensi and local acordeonista Susan Torres.
To round out an incredible night of Latin music, Austin-based chicha band and Grupo Fantasma side-project Money Chicha is performing.
On the patio will be the usual third Friday throwdown from Peligrosa with members Pagame, King Louie, Manolo Black, Sonora , DJ Manny, El Dusty and Chorizo Funk. Anytime these guys come together, it is special. Friday night will be no different. For more on Peligrosa, click here.
