[5/15] Preview: Peligrosa ft. Murlo at Empire Control Room & Garage

May 13, 2015 By Ian Morales

Peligrosa FBFriday, May 15, marks the third Friday of the month and that means it is time for Austin-based Latin DJ collective Peligrosa to take over Empire Control Room & Garage. Austin’s longest running Latin dance party will welcome special guest Murlo to the party as the London-based producer is currently on his first North American tour. While the DJs own the patio, live music will be provided on the Control Room stage inside by Austin-based performers Leticia Rodriguez and Huerta Culture. Puro party y’all.

Although not Latino, Murlo will be an easy fit with the Latin sounds of Peligrosa. His mixes are heavily Caribbean-influenced, remixing grime, dancehall, R&B and more on UK dance floors. His latest release, Jasmine EP, was released in February via Mixpak. The EP features his first, full original vocal release, Irish vocalist Gemma Dunleavy. Be ready to dance to a little Jasmine material as well as some electronic riddims.

Peligrosa crew members who will be in the house Friday include Orion, Manolo Black, DJ Manny, El Dusty and Chorizo Funk. Peligrosa photographer Quito will be taking photos.

Empire Control Room & Garage is located at 606 E. 7th Street. Doors open at 10 p.m. 21+ welcome. $5 Pre-sale Ticket (GA) available here / $8 Day Of Show. Visit the Facebook event page here. In the event of rain, the full show will be moved inside to the Control Room stage.

Saturday, Jan. 17, Swine Dive will be the place for Austinites to enjoy live Latin music with a salsa twist. The historic Red River venue is the perfect setting for Austin-based singer Leticia Rodriguez Garza and her backing band. Her performance will be surrounded by DJ sets from DJ Vanessa La Bestia, which will include salsa favorites new and old.

In addition to performing salsa covers, Rodriguez Garza will perform original music from 2014’s Sagüita al Bate album. Like the album, her music is a fusion of sounds that range from throwback era mambo, boleros Latin Jazz and other traditional Latin rhythms. It is to be expected from the niece of the late, great Eva Garza.

Swan Dive is located at 615 Red River Street. Doors open at 9 :30 p.m. Event begins at 10 p.m. 21+ welcome. $5 cover. Visit the Facebook event page for set times and other details here.
