Miami-based Bachaco releases self-titled debut

September 6, 2012 By Austin Vida Staff

With members from Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Colombia and Ireland, Bachaco’s music is as diverse as its members. The six-piece multinational band from Miami was founded in 2007 by brothers Edilberto and Jose Morillo. Bachaco fuses bilingual lyrics with reggae, dancehall and cumbia with elements of ska and hip-hop. The band has performed live more than 300 times, including a recent performance in Austin at The Sahara Lounge in August.

After years of touring, Bachaco has finally released their first self-titled debut album. Co-produced with Mariano Aponte, the 11-track album features Chilean reggae group Gondwana on “Cruzando Fronteras” and includes their first ever-instrumental track “Ciao.” The band also collaborated with Miami musicians Alan Reyna, who provided the percussion throughout the record, and Alex Guardia played the trombone during the instrumental song. With a mix of uplifting and socially conscience songs, the album represents the band’s unique musical fusions.

The Washington D.C based Latin-funk band, the Empresarios, know just the right rhythms to get a party started. Led by Javier Miranda, the band embraces Caribbean beats and mixes them with dub, reggae, funk and house to create their “tropicaliente” sound that’s filled with the creativity of each DJ in the group to make a fusion that can make anyone start dancing.

While the Empresarios get ready to release their second studio album, they’re filling the summer void with their recently released EP, Volume, featuring four new tracks with instrumental versions. The opening song includes the collaboration with Australian producer Omegaman resulting in “Para Mis Amigos,” a Latin funk song that’s heavy on the horns and includes breakbeats and congas. While the first track starts the party, the last one, ”Estereolismo,” brings it back down with soothing percussions, the guitar and funky horns.
