Photos: Latin acts at Austin City Limits Festival 2012

Once again this year’s ACL Fest was light on Latino presence, but heavy on quality when it came to the three Latin bands the festival promoters did book. All three bands were bands that rarely perform in Austin, and two were internationally based. The Latin bands that performed Saturday included Costa Rican tropical funk band Sonambulo, the colorful Venezuelan indie-punk band La Vida Bohème and Brooklyn-based Afrobeat band Antibalas.

Judging by the response of the mostly non-Latino crowd to these three bands, it seems that the two weekend event in 2013 should have more Latin flavor added to the mix. It would make an already musically diverse and enjoyable festival more lively, especially given our Latino population here in Texas. Austin Vida staff photographer Mari Hernández was at the festival to capture live photos of all the action.

(10/13) La Vida Bohème at Gypsy Lounge

October 12, 2012 By Austin Vida Staff

No passes the big fest or tickets to a sold out aftershow? No problem. With several unofficial live music options (see our sister site Red River Noise), we wanted to spotlight what might be the one Latin Alternative event to get excited about in Austin this weekend. Fans of Latin American style dance-punk and indie rock will not want to miss Venezuelan rockeros La Vida Bohème (LVB) at Gypsy Lounge on Saturday, October 13.

LVB released their debut Spanish language album, Nuestra, via Nacional Records last summer and later received two Latin Grammy nominations from Latin Recording Academy. Nuestra was nominated for Best Rock Album and “Radio Capital” was nominated for Best Rock Song. The album was also nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album. While in Austin during this year’s South By Southwest in March, LVB earned praise from various media outlets, both Latin and mainstream.

Gypsy Lounge is located at 1504 E. 6th Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. Free for 21+ with RSVP on the official Facebook event page here. Austin-based Rock en Español band 2-Rock opens the show. Show presented by Music Way.
