Austin finally has a large scale World Music Festival, Wobeon Fest. The two day event happens both Saturday and Sunday at the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC). The lineup includes popular Latin Alternative acts as well as a couple of Austin-based favorites. Afropop superstar Angelique Kidjo (from Benin, Africa) headlines on Saturday and Reggae star Collie Buddz (from Bermuda) headlines on Sunday.
Noteworthy Latin acts include indie-electro duo Bomba Estéreo, whom most Austinites will remember from their headlining performance at Pachanga in 2010 and their multiple South by Southwest gigs over the years. Brooklyn-based 8 piece Afro-Columbian psych band M.A.K.U. Sound System as well as Los Angeles-based Latin roots band La Santa Cecilia are on the festival bill. Austin’s own Brazilian fusion band Suns of Orpheus will be teaming up with Colombian pop artist Duina del Mar on Saturday afternoon. Complete lineup and set times are available here.
The ESB-MACC is located at 600 River Street. All ages are welcome. Advance tickets are available here. Kids under 12 are free with guardian. Wobeon Fest is from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. A portion of the proceeds from Wobeon Fest will benefit The United Way for Greater Austin.
