Cross collaboration tour between VICE and Indio Cerveza, Hola Indio made four stops at Red 7 in Austin this year. On Friday, November 2, the fourth and final installment was part of the Fun Fun Fun Fest ‘Nites aftershow series.  The tour was dedicated to showcasing the cross-influence of Mexican and American cultures in contemporary music and art.

Each event featured one Mexican headliner and local bands or DJs. Headlining Friday’s event was Monterrey, Mexico producer and mix-master Toy Selectah (Toy Hernández). Austin Vida photographer Kristie Bocanegra was at Red 7 and shot some photos of the night’s festivities.

[11/2] Preview: Hola Indio featuring Toy Selectah at Red 7

The final edition of the Hola Indio tour, a cross collaboration tour between VICE and Indio Cerveza, comes to Red 7 on Friday, November 2, as part of the Fun Fun Fun Fest ‘Nites aftershow series. The tour is dedicated to showcasing the cross-influence of Mexican and American cultures in contemporary music and art. The event will feature one Mexican headliner and local bands or DJs while showcasing two art pieces, both produced collaboratively by a Mexican artist and American artist. Friday’s installment of the tour will benefit the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA).

Headlining Friday’s event is Monterrey, Mexico producer and mix-master Toy Selectah (Toy Hernández). As a producer, Hernández has worked with some of the biggest names in music including Calle 13, Cypress Hill and Café Tacvba to name a few. A founding member of the Mexican hip hop group Control Machete, Hernández now serves as Creative Director, A&R and CEO of his own production company and boutique label Sones del Mexside.

Co-headlining the bill with Toy Selectah will be San Antonio-based DJ/producer Mexicans With Guns performing as “Gun Selectah.” The lucha masked DJ is Exponential Records honcho Ernest Gonzales. [9/29] Preview: Hola Indio at Red 7 featuring Dani Shivers

The next edition of the Hola Indio, tour a cross collaboration tour between VICE and Indio Cerveza, comes to Red 7 on Saturday, September 29. The tour is dedicated to showcasing the cross-influence of Mexican and American cultures in contemporary music and art. Each party will feature one Mexican headliner and local bands or DJs while showcasing two art pieces, both produced collaboratively by a Mexican artist and American artist. The third of four parties to hit Austin, the tour will benefit the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA).

Saturday’s headliner is Tijuana-based “spook-pop” artist Dani Shivers (You Schaffner of Ibi Ego). Her lo-fi brand of witch house fuses toy keyboards, sound effects from horror films and aggressive electronic dance music elements. Shivers’ full-length debut Jinx was released in 2011, on the Tijuana-based cassette-only label Prima Crush.

Supporting Shivers are Austin-based Feathers and Peilgrosa frontman DJ Orión. Mexican artists Yurex Omazkin and Edgar Orlaineta will showcase original works produced in collaboration with Ryan Travis Christian and Deitch Projects alumn Evan Gruzis. To RSVP, visit http://rsvp.vice.com/holaindio/.
