Brazil’s world-renowned dance company, Grupo Corpo, was founded in 1975 by brothers Rodrigo (Choreographer), Paulo (Artistic Director) and Pedro (Technical Director) Pedernias in the City of Belo Horizonte. Their style strives to graft the pliancy of modern dance and the rhythmic complexity of Afro-Brazilian dance onto ballet.
As part of the 2012-2013 Texas Performing Arts season and in partnership with the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies, the Department of Theatre and Dance, and L Style G Style, the Texas Performing Arts will be presenting a two-evening return of Grupo Corpo. For this Austin engagement, Grupo Corpo’s selections include music by + 2 (Moreno, Domenico, Kassin) and Carlos Núñes and José Miguel Wisnik (based on works by Martín Codax).
The performances will be held at Bass Concert Hall located at 23rd and East Campus Drive on October 18-19 at 8 p.m. Ticket prices range from $10.00-$42.00. You can purchase them through the Texas Performing Arts website here or by calling 512-471-4454.
