Groundwork Music Orchestra is a non-profit whose mission is to provide free and low-cost music classes to young children with limited means. Founded by Neal Kassanoff, the classes are designed to help children develop music skills at an early age. Music lessons have been recorded on Introducing the Groundwork Music Orchestra and though the songs are intended for young children, they also maintain the interests of older listeners.
To get ready for the holiday spirit, the organization will be performing a diverse set of holiday music at Cherrywood Coffeehouse for the whole family. Christmas, Hanukah and the usual Groundwork music will be performed along with kid friendly covers from Johnny Cash, Talking Heads and Squeeze among others. Music that will be performed at the event includes songs co-written by Kassanoff and Ben Kweller. Aside from having Groundwork Music Orchestra players perform, local musicians will also be joining them.
The free performance will be held from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Dec. 9 at Cherrywood Coffeehouse located at 1400 E. 38th ½ St. Donations and merchandise proceeds will go to providing free and low cost music classes at preschools, songwriting workshops and enrichment classes at elementary schools for the 2012-2013 school year.
