Brazilian legend and Grammy-award-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist Gilberto Gil will be performing at Bass Concert Hall on Tuesday, October 30. Gil is also an uncompromising social activist, having forged a powerful musical voice over his celebrated four-decade career in his native Brazil and worldwide. Gil began his career as a bossa nova musician, eventually writing songs that reflected a new focus on political awareness and social activism. From 2003 to 2008 he served as his country’s Minister of Culture in the administration of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
For Tuesday’s performance, Gil and his band will reinvent old classics while also playing new songs from the recently released album and live DVD Fé na Festa, all inspired by the baião sound. The Bass Concert Hall is located at 2350 East Campus Dr. All ages are welcome. Show starts at 8 p.m. Advance tickets are available here.
