Tonight local hot doggery and live music venue Frank is the place to be for live Latin music. Day three of Opus, a three night event that features bands and DJs presented by Frank and Red Bull, brings the psychedelic sounds of Austin’s Money Chicha with Peligrosa frontman DJ Orión spinning before and after the band. It is great way to warm up, Latino estlye, before the second weekend of the big fest and the happenings around it this weekend.

Money Chicha is Austin’s first chicha band, but with a modern twist of course. Their music pays homage to the musical and cultural movement of the ’60s and ’70s found in Peru and Colombia, but with elements of  psych-rock. A “super group” side project of sort, members of Money Chicha also perform with Grupo Fantasma, Brownout, Ocote Soul Sounds, Echocentrics to name a few.

Frank is located at 4th and Colorado. The event is from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. All ages welcome. No cover. Visuals by DJ Orión. Visit the Facebook event page here. Listen to music from Money Chicha and DJ Orión below.

September 5, 2013 By Austin Vida Staff

Thursday nights just got waaayyyyy funkier this month at Frank. March 19, 2013 By Austin Vida Staff

Local Latin rock collective Movimiento Rockero and Austin Vida are teaming up to bring you the best in local, regional and national Latin rock each month at Frank. This month’s showcase is Thursday night with three of Austin’s most diverse rockeros.

Austin-based Vitera may be the only group around that mixes classic ’80s style Rock en Español and modern rock with a violin. Fronted by Movimiento Rockero leader Haydn Vitera, the group’s sound aims to bring back an arena rock feel with a Latin twist for all to enjoy. Vitera is performing in support of their latest album, ¡Súbete! and take the stage at midnight.
