[9/12] Preview: 37th Annual Mexican Independence Celebration at Fiesta Gardens

Fiestas PatriasToday at Fiesta Gardens marks the 37th annual Mexican Independence celebration presented by Fiestas Patrias of Austin. As always, there will be family-friendly fun and a great Tejano/Conjunto  lineup.

This year’s schedule is as follows…please note that it may be subject to change without notice:

Folklorico Fiesta featuring Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklorico de Texas – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Cañonazo (Tejano) – 2 p.m.

Los Dos Gilbertos (Conjunto) – 4:15 p.m.

Los Badd Boyz Del Valle (Conjunto) –  6 p.m.

Marcos Orozco (Tejano) – 7:45 p.m.

Jimmy Gonzalez y Grupo Mazz (Tejano) – 9:30 p.m.

Long story short: Another great family event at Fiesta Gardens with a great selection of performers. There will be plenty of food and community too! A fantastic way to say goodbye to summer.

Fiesta Gardens is located at 1900 E Jesse E. Segovia Street, at the intersection with Chicon Street, on the banks of Lady Bird Lake in East Austin. Doors open at 10 a.m.

Admission is free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., $8 from 2 to 5 p.m. and $10 from 5 p.m. to close. All ages are welcome and children under 12 are always free with a paying adult.

[5/3] Preview: Cinco de Mayo at Fiesta Gardens

Fiestas PatriasSunday, May 3, Austin’s annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta returns to Fiesta Gardens with a day full of music and entertainment for the entire family.

This year’s event is hosted by Fiestas Patrias of Austin and Austin’s own Conjunto legend, Johnny Degollado. Also known as “El Montopolis Kid,” Degollado has organized the conjunto showcase for twenty-five years. In fact, the pavilion where the bands will be performing is named after him.

The lineup is as follows, and may be subject to change:

1:30 p.m. Santiago Jimenez, Jr.
3:00 p.m. Boni Mauricio y Los Maximos
4:30 p.m. Flavio Longoria y Los Conjunto Kingz
6:00 p.m. Johnny Degollado y Su Conjunto
7:00 p.m. Ricky Naranjo y Los Gamblers
8:30 p.m. Los Fantasmas del Valle

Long story short: A great Austin tradition that celebrates Tejano culture with some of conjunto’s biggest names and plenty of room to dance.

[9/13-9/14] Preview: Diez y Seis Celebration at Fiesta Gardens

An Austin tradition continues Saturday and Sunday September 13 and 14 at Fiesta Gardens with this year’s Diez y Seis de Septiembre Celebration. Now in its 36th year, the annual event presented by Fiestas Patrias of Austin celebrates Mexican Independence day with a weekend full of family-friendly activities, music and entertainment.

This year’s lineup includes many local Tejano favorites and Sunday features a lineup mixing grupero, Norteño, and other styles more popular with a Mexican audience. Here’s a look at the schedule, which may be subject to change:

Long story short: Another great family event at Fiesta Gardens with a wide variety of groups and genres. A rare Austin performance by newly-reunited Tierra Tejana is well worth the cover on Saturday by itself.

Saturday admission is free until 4 p.m. and $7 per person after 4 p.m. Sunday admission is $10 until 4 p.m. and “a little more” after 4 p.m. Children under 12 are free with paying adults and all ages are welcome. Fiestas PatriasThis weekend, May 3-4, Austin’s annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta returns to Fiesta Gardens with a weekend full of music and entertainment for the entire family. Presented by Fiestas Patrias of Austin, the event has brought the biggest names in Tejano and conjunto music from all over Texas since 2005, and this year is no exception.

Sunday’s lineup, also known as the “Austin Conjunto Festival,” is presented by Austin’s own Johnny Degollado. Also known as “El Montopolis Kid,” the conjunto legend has organized the conjunto showcase for over twenty years. In fact, the pavilion where the bands will be performing is named after him.
