[6/19] Preview: La Vida Buena at Empire Control Room & Garage

Tonight Austin-based salsa fusion group La Vida Buena are sending off trombone player Tate Hearn to work on cruise lines with big “bon voyage” party at Empire Control Room & Garage. The event will be sort of a Li Vida Buena takeover as different members of the group will also be handling DJ duty before and after the group performs. Frontwoman and KOOP Radio personality Vanessa Burden spins at 10:30 and percussionist Dario Aravena finishes the night with a moombahton set.

La Vida Buena is lead by member Louie “Luison” Alarcon. The La Vida group performs original tracks from their debut EP ¡Checkpoint Alpha! as well as salsa-fied covers of popular hip-hop and R&B tracks. You read that right. Be ready for “Gin & Juice” like you’ve never heard before. La Vida Buena perform at 11 p.m.

Pachanga announces official pre-show and after parties

Pachanga After Party The folks from Pachanga Latino Music Festival announced their official pre-show and a multiple after parties surrounding the festival. The festival happens on May 10 at Fiesta Gardens, but tickets for the off site events will only be available at the door of each specified venue and must be purchased separately. Pachanga ticket holders will receive a $5 discount for after party tickets.

Friday, May 9, the official pre-party kicks off at Empire Control Room & Garage with two stages. Outside on the patio the Austin-based DJ collective Peligrosa will spin the night away while live bands perform on the inside (Control Room) stage. The headliner is Nacional Records indie rockeros La Vida Bohème. Oh, and be ready Selena fans…Bidi Bidi Banda is making their proper debut. See full lineup and details below. Saturday, May 10, Pachanga takes over the East 6th block where popular hotspots Hotel Vegas, The Volstead Lounge and Gyspy Lounge reside. Pachangeros won’t have to go far from Fiesta Gardens to partake in the after festivities. Each venue will host different artists simultaneously, presenting different genres of the fest as well as what Austin has to offer. See full lineup and details below. Austin-based Latin DJ collective Peligrosa throw down on the patio of Empire Control Room & Garage tonight to begin their monthly residency at their old stompin’ ground. Expect to dance to the best of pinche perreo, delicious dembow, titillating tribal (pronounced like tree-ball), saucy salsa, bubbly bachata and of course digital cumbia. Peligrosa is the longest running dance party in Austin.

Tonight Peligrosa will feature members DJ Orión, Chorizo Funk, King Louie, Manolo Black, Pagame, Sonora and their newest member, DJ Manny. Be ready to be photographed by Peligrosa photographer Quito and have your mind blown away by visual master VJ 4th Wall. Austin Ticket Giveaway: Money Chicha, Cilantro Boombox & Golden Dawn Arkestra

Money Chicha is Austin’s first chicha group, incorporating the psychedelic sounds of guitars, fuzz, and reverb with heavy percussion. Featuring members of Grupo Fantasma and Brownout, their music pays homage to the musical and cultural movement of the ’60s and ’70s found in Peru and Colombia.

On Saturday, Apr. 5, Money Chicha will be performing a headlining show at Empire Control Room & Garage. They will be joined by two of Austin’s finest, Afro-Latin fusionists Cilantro Boombox and the Afrodelic funksters, The Golden Dawn Arkestra. The best part? We have a couple of guest list spots we are giving away to a couple of our lucky Austin Vida readers.

Austin Ticket Giveaway: Carla Morrison at Empire Control Room & Garage

Heard Entertainment and Austin Vida present Déjenme Llorar, a night celebrating the passionate, serendipitous Latin soul of Latin Grammy winner Carla Morrison at Empire Garage on Wednesday night, Oct. 2. This concert is also serving as showcase of sort for her new company, Pan Dulce Productions. This special evening, like its namesake album, is sure to enrapture Morrison’s fans here in Austin all over again.

Co-headlining the concert will be Argentinian indie-pop artist Sol Pereryra. Although relatively unknown in the US, Pereryra is a veteran in the Latin Alternative music scene. In 2001 Sol formed popular Argentinian indie band Los Cocineros, which recorded 7 albums. Pereryra is a composer and a multi-instrumentalist playing the trumpet, guitar, the Venezuelan cuatro, ukulele, percussion, and vocals) all of which you can hear on her 2nd album, Comunmixta. In 2008 Pereryra became a member of Grammy winner Julieta Venegas’ band and performed on her critically acclaimed MTV Unplugged album.

Also Joining Morrison for the concert will be Mexico City-based singer-songwriter (by way of Tijuana) and member of the Pan Dulce Productions family, Jandro. Aside from being a solo artist himself, Jandro was also part of the winning team that created Morrison’s 2-time Latin GRAMMY winning album and title track (as a recording engineer) for Déjenme Llorar (2012).

Austin-based bilingual folkera Gina Chavez opens the show. The best part? We have two tickets to giveaway to one of our lucky Austin Vida readers.
