AV Aug 9 FacebookSaturday, Aug. 9, Austin Vida is presenting their next Latin music showcase at our ole’ 6th Street stompin’ ground, Flamingo Cantina. We’ve got a three band bill that is the perfect soundtrack for your Saturday night. Two of Austin’s favorites will perform with one of our favorites from San Antonio. There will be zero reason to stay home and every reason to dance.

Opening the showcase are San Antonio-based Los Nahuatlatos. The group began a few years back as a band called Xemilla with current members vocalist/drummer Joaquin Abrego, guitarists Pablo Mancias and Cuauhtli Reyna, and bassist Carlos Mancias. They then joined up with rapper Itzli Ramirez, accordionist Nicolas Valdez and trombonist Daniel Klein to form Los Nahuatlatos. Their music fuses different styles of Latino music (including but not limited to- conjunto, Son Jarocho, Latin Jazz and R&B) and incorporates them with elements of hip-hop, ska, reggae and soul. While some members have changed, the same sound remains.

Austin’s El Tule have the night’s second slot following Los Nahuatlatos. The group is a longtime staple in the Latin music community in Austin.
