Tonight east side live music venue Gypsy Lounge will play host to Mexican hair metal singer, Poc. The Mexico City-based rockera is more Lita Ford than Caifanes, so don’t expect any Maná covers. While Poc is the featured headliner, heads up if you want to make sure to catch her set as she will play the middle slot and take the stage at 10:30 p.m.
Although Poc is only in her twenties, she is a throwback to the Sunset Strip rock scene of the early ’80s. Most recently her claim to up-and-coming stardom was serving as the opening act for Guns N’ Roses during their Mexican tour in 2011. Her full-length album Rise Above was co-written and produced by Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal and feature Guns N’ Roses bandmate Frank Ferrer on drums. The album features nine songs in Spanish and three in English.
Opening the night’s showcase is Austin-based Iron Maiden tribute band, DRIFTER. Formed in 2000, the group performs Iron Maiden material with meticulous attention to detail, from the first album up to Seventh Son. DRIFTER perform at 9 p.m.
Closing the night’s showcase is San Antonio-based rock band Celeste’al Descent. Gypsy Lounge is located at 1505 East 6th Street. Doors open at 8 p.m. Music starts at 9 p.m. 21+ are welcome. $8 cover. Visit the official Facebook event page here. Stream the show live here.
