Nicaraguan singer-songwriter Perrozompopo released his new video for “Mundo.”

Nicaraguan singer-songwriter Perrozompopo released his new music video for his single “Mundo.” Directed by Los Broderes Films, the single is the title track from his latest album released May 27 via Cosmica Records. The video originally premiered via MTV Iggy.

Mundo is the follow-up album to 2010’s Latin Grammy nominated Canciones Populares Contestatarias. Perrozompopo, whose real name is Ramón Mejía, has been winning over fans all over Latin America and the U.S. since 2000. His previous releases include 2008’s Quiero Que Sepas and 2011’s Die Fische & Perrozompopo: Live/In Nicaragua.

Austin Ticket Giveaway: The Electronic Ladyland Tour ft. María del Pilar, Jesika Von Rabbit & Okapi Sun

Electric Ladyland Tour poster 2Maria Del Pilar is about to embark on the Electronic Ladyland Tour. She helps anchor The Los Angeles Latin Alternative scene. The former Los Abandoned frontwoman who used to go by Pilar Díaz has been described as a Latina influenced Bjork. Part pop diva, part mystic dreamer, and all Los Angeles estyle, The Pachanga Latino Music Festival alumna paints a complex sonic for wonderland dancers and thinkers alike in both English and Spanish.

On Wednesday, July 30, The Electronic Ladyland Tour is coming to Austin at The Belmont. For the tour, María del Pilar will be joined by Gram Rabbit frontwoman Jesika Von Rabbit and indie-electro duo Okapi Sun. The best part? We will be giving away a pair of tickets to the show every week until the week of the show. That’s right…three pairs of tickets to giveaway and maybe more if you’re lucky.

The giveaway will be conducted as a raffle from our email list. Just click “enter the drawing” below after submitting your full name and email address. Only submissions with full names will be officially entered. We will pick the winner from these submissions before 6 p.m. at the start of every week on Monday. That means a winner will be notified on July 14, 21 and 28. You only need to enter the drawing once. We’ll select ticket winners each week at random from this one entry list. Easy right? The winner will be notified via email from Austin Vida. Good luck!

[3/14 – 3/15] Preview: Pan Americana Fest 2014

Pan Am Fest Mar 14.15 On Friday, March 14, the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (ESB-MACC) and Bellas Artes Alliance will present the fourth annual Pan Americana Fest. The free two-day event will feature some of the world’s best Latin Alternative along with local and regional acts for all to see during South by Southwest (SXSW). With a stacked lineup from top to bottom, there is more than enough talent to keep the party going from start to finish. The best part? It is absolutely free to the public.

Friday’s big name headliners include Mexican electronic duo Bostich + Fussible from Nortec Collective and Monterrey tribal sensations, 3Ball MTY. Texas will be well represented as San Antonio punkeros Piñata Protest and Corpus Christi’s Master Blaster Sound System co-headline before the Mexican faves. DJ Dus, a member of Master Blaster Sound System and Peligrosa, will step out and perform as El Dusty on both nights.

On Saturday, Mar. 15, the fest continues on with Venezuelan disco-funkeros, Los Amigos Invisibles. Their Nacional Records label mate Mexican Institute of Sound (M.I.S.) and Panabaynian hip-hop duo Los Rakas co-headline. Mexican rockera Poc opens the event on both nights.

The ESB-MACC is located at 600 River Street. All ages are welcome. No badge or RSVP required. The Pan Americana Fest will last from 5-11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Visit the SXSW website here for set times.

[3/13] Preview: Saustex + Cosmica official SXSW showcase

Cosmica Saustex Mar 13 The Cosmica + Saustex official South by Southwest (SXSW) showcase returns on Thursday night, Mar. 13. This year the showcase is taking place at Rainey Street hotspot, Javelina Bar. One of the most interesting live music showcases during SXSW, the two brands come together to give attendees a sample of the world’s best Latin Alternative while accompanied by some of the world’s best cowpunk-inspired sounds. Only in Texas can that happen without people shaking their heads.

Cosmica, a boutique entertainment management and record releasing company based in Los Angeles, will be presenting the showcases’ three Latin Alternative bands. Mexico City-based blues-rock duo The Copper Gamins open the showcase at 8 p.m. Tucson-based Pachanga alumni Sergio Mendoza Y La Orkesta bring their “Mambo Mexicano” flavor at 10 p.m. Austin’s own Como Las Movies close the party at 1 a.m.

Saustex, the San Antonio-based label that is home to bands like Piñata Protest and Hickoids, will present San Antonio-based rockabilly-fusion band The Hares at 11 p.m. Berlin’s polka-punkeros A Pony Named Olga will perform at midnight. The San Antonio-based TexMex powerpop band, The Krayloas, perform at 9 p.m.

Single admissions for those wanting to attend without SXSW badges or wristbands will be available at the door. Price TBD. Priority given to wristband and badge holders. Austin Vida presents Barrio Bash Vol. V at The Sahara Lounge

What better time to come back than during South by Southwest than with our annual Barrio Bash (unofficial) day party at The Sahara Lounge? With so many Latin bands in town from all over the United States and Latin America, we wanted to showcase some of our faves for our local readers without the hassle of a badge or high ticket cost.

This year we are presenting Barrio Bash on two days, the first being Friday, Mar. 14. We have artists ranging from singer-songwriters to Brazilian-inspired bass queens to a modern mambo extraordinaire. See the full lineup and set times below.

Also this year, our friends at Pachanga Latino Music Festival have provided us with a pair of tickets to giveaway to one of our Barrio Bash attendees. Pachanga takes place on May 10 at Fiesta Gardens and features Mexican pop-star Julieta Venegas, Venezuelan rockers La Vida Bohéme and more. All you have to do to enter your name in the drawing is RSVP for Barrio Bash Vol. V below. Only entries with your full name and a valid email address will be eligible to win. We will email the winner on Thursday night, May 13, the day before the showcase. Our winner must be in attendance to claim their tickets.
