Tonight the Moose Lodge welcomes Buena Compania to the stage. The Austin band is one of several new groups in town, suggesting a changing tide in the Tejano scene in the Live Music Capital.
Buena Compania is a 5-piece band made up of veteran musicians and plays a variety of different styles including Tejano, country, cumbias, and more. They’re not too heavy on the brass, with only alto and tenor sax being played by bandleader Gilbert Davila, and they do include a keyboard and electric guitar along with the rhythm section.
It’s great to see new groups like Buena Compania, Lo Nuestro, Big Band Tejano and Bronze Band forming here in Austin, as the Tejano and Conjunto scenes have been inexplicably underrepresented in a city with a worldwide reputation for live music.
Long story short: Live Tejano music at the laid-back, family-friendly Moose Lodge is always a fun, cost-effective, stress-free way to spend a Saturday night. The big dancefloor beckons you, as do our local Tejano musicians and venues.
The Moose Lodge is located at 2103 E.M. Franklin Avenue, north of MLK and east of Airport Boulevard in East Austin. Showtime is 8 p.m., and the cover is $5 per person all night long. All ages are welcome. For more information, contact the Moose Lodge at 512-926-0043.
