Tonight the “2015 Urban Rock Tour” featuring Latin Grammy winners Los Rabanes is making its way to Flamingo Cantina in Austin. The long overdue tour stop is part of a Texas tour put together by Houston-based booking and music licensing company Elk Records. The tour supporting bill includes Houston-based rockeros Elyze, Dallas-based Foco de Atelier and Austin’s Cilantro Boombox.
Hailing from the Panamanian city of Chitré, Herrera, Los Rabanes formed in the early ’90s. Their fusion of ska, rock and traditional Latin rhythms is backed by mostly Spanish lyrics with the occasional English choruses, as evident in some of their biggest hits including “Commanding Wife” and “Bam Bam.” In the group won a Latin Grammy for “best rock album by a duo or group with vocal.” Much of their more recent work has featured collaborations with popular reggaetón artists, which should come as no surprise as the genre has deep roots in Panamá.
Tickets are still available and fans will be able to pay at the door. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see Los Rabanes while they are in Texas and arrive early to give an open minded listen to the openers. Sample music from Los Rabanes and the supporting acts below.
