Friday, Apr. 3, El Sol y La Luna welcomes Grupo Diztinto to the stage. The Austin-based group will bring something a little different to the downtown restaurant and live music venue with some norteño-flavored cumbias, huapangos, romantic rancheras and more.
Formed in 2014, Diztinto brings together six super-talented musicians with norteño roots. Led by drummer Victor Garcia, the group features lead singer Alex Machado, Ivan Balderas on accordion and sax, Manuel Balderas on keyboards, Cesar Balderas on guitar and bajo quinto, and Miguel Granado on bass. The band’s sound fuses together classic norteño with a light contemporary pop feel and strong rhythms courtesy of Garcia. Rumor has it that the guys are planning on recording their first single in the next few months.
Long story short: The guys have great chemistry, lots of fun on stage, tons of talent, and are really hitting their stride musically. This is dance music in the same family as Tejano and conjunto, with many of the same arrangements and sounds (accordion, keyboards, bajo quinto, etc.), so bring a dance partner!
El Sol y La Luna is located at 6th and Red River in downtown Austin. Music starts at 8 p.m. No cover. All ages are welcome. For more information, contact El Sol y La Luna at 512-444-7770.
