This weekend Latin music makes it home on 6th street at Flamingo Cantina. Tonight begins night one of two in which the venue will play host to two different live music showcases that will feature different genres of local Latin music. Kicking things off first tonight will be Timberos Del Norte and Son De Rey.
Lead by composer-producer and award winning salsa pianist Paul Matthews, Timberos Del Norte are Austin’s ambassadors of timba, a popular Cuban genre that incorporates elements of salsa, American funk, R&B and Afro-Cuban folkloric music. Williams is joined by some of Texas’ most accomplished and award-winning musicians, including Multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy winning horn arranger and trombonist, Raul “Ralo” Vallejo. Timberos Del Norte perform at 10 p.m.
Closing the showcase tonight is Austin-based Latin-fusion band Son De Rey. Fronted by the dynamic and always energetic Luis Miguel Ramírez, the group performs original music and covers ranging from English language dance tracks to Tejano faves. Son De Rey takes the stage at 11:30 p.m.
Flamingo Cantina is located at 515 E. 6h Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. 21+ welcome. $5 cover. Visit the Facebook event page here.
