[9/13-9/14] Preview: Tejano Fest in Round Rock

Tejano FestThis weekend, Round Rock welcomes some of Tejano’s biggest stars for a Diez y Seis celebration in Centennial Plaza. Tejano Fest 2014, sponsored by Homer’s Road House, is a two-day family-friendly outdoor event celebrating Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1825.

The schedule features Grammy Award-winning performers as well as some local legends as well. Here’s a look at those scheduled to perform:

Saturday 9/13
2:30 – 4:30: Acero
4:30-6:00 Ballet Folklorico
6:30 – 8:00 Marcos Orozco
8:00 – 10:00 Gary Hobbs
10:30 – 12:00 Jay Perez

Sunday 9/14
1:30 – 3:30 Street People
3:30 – 5:30 Los Hermanos Farias
5:30 – 7:30 David Lee Garza
7:30 – 9:00 Jimmy Gonzales Y Grupo Mazz

Long story short: Two days full of solid gold classic Tejano. Expect accordions and horns, plenty of polkas and rancheras along with a few cumbias.

Centennial Plaza is located at 301 W. Bagdad in downtown Round Rock, next to the Baca Center. All ages are welcome and lawn chairs are recommended. Cover is $15 per person per day, and children under 12 are free. For more information, visit the Facebook event here.

Piper LeMoine manages all things technical, promotional, and creative at Austin's own Rancho Alegre Radio, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Tejano and Conjunto music. She also co-hosts Rancho Alegre, playing Tejano and Conjunto music every Monday from 9-10 a.m. on KOOP 91.7 FM in Austin and online at koop.org.
