Mexico City-based indie duo The Copper Gamins are composed of guitarist/songwriter José Carmen and drummer Claus Lafania. The Copper Gamins’ music contains elements of punk rock and folk with traditional blues at the nucleus of it all. The duo released their first full-length album Los Niños de Cobre on March 5 through Saustex Media and Cosmica Records. This 17-track album features covers of songs by artists like the White Stripes, John Lomax, and Pedro Infante, among others.

Last year the band recorded their self-titled EP at an abandoned house using a couple of microphones and a mixer. The EP featured original singles “Ruby Red” and “Oh Girl,” among other originals and covers. The Copper Gamins started gaining popularity in the U.S. after performing in San Antonio for two months and then to Austin shortly thereafter for a similar run of successful gigs. The duo performed at South By Southwest (SXSW) last year and they are back in town for the music portion of the festival this week. See performance dates, times and venues below.
