Pistolera front-woman Sandra Lilia Velasquez, also known as SLV, announces release of her debut solo EP Dig Deeper, out on Feb 12 on her own label, Luchadora. Dig Deeper, produced by ten-time Grammy nominee and R&B legend Meshell Ndegeocello, includes singles “Enough,” “Sueño,” “History” and “Painted Pictures.” These four new tracks blend compelling lyrics with deep moody acoustic and elegant grooves, different from the accordion-driven songs she sang for Pistolera.
SLV’s debut music video for “Enough” premiered on Jan. 23 on WNYC Soundcheck’s blog. The video shows SLV singing in a confessional booth while the priest listening in the other side griefs about him not being able to do enough for people. This is exactly what “Enough” talks about –people having hope and doing good for others, but also feeling hopeless because sometimes no matter what you do, it is never enough.
The Mexican-American alternative singer has an extensive musical career. She released three albums with Pistolera, an accordion-driven Latin-rock-folk band from Brooklyn, and toured all over the world as a member of the band. After eight years with Pistolera, SLV decided to go on a different route and pursue a solo career. Being the first time she adventures to write songs in both English and Spanish, her new material shows us a more calmed side to the artist than the upbeat rhythms we had heard from her before. She was recently awarded the grand-prize winner of John Lennon Songwriting Contest in the Latin category in 2012.
