Mexico City-based electro-funk band Dapuntobeat announced the release of their U.S. debut album I/O, out on Aug. 6 through Nacional Records. This album challenged the band to get out of their comfort zone, writing new songs from scratch that would reach bigger audiences outside their fanbase. Still, I/O features songs with their signature sound full of danceable beats. The album features multiple guest artists including Elis Paprika, AK Escobar ‘Momo,’ members of Los Tetas and Chilean singer Javiera Mena, among others. A digital download of I/O is now available on iTunes.
Dapuntobeat was founded in 1998 in the heart of Mexico City. Their sound is a unique fusion of electronica, funk and rock. The band’s previous album, Off The Record, spiked their popularity with the single “:O,” and was named one of the best albums of the year by Rolling Stone Mexico, Warp and Ibero 90.9. The group have numerous major festival performances on their resume including Festival Internacional de Benicassim in Spain, Fête de la Musique, Vive Latino and Corona Capital and our very own South by Southwest. They have shared the stage with artists like The Freestylers, Fat Boy Slim, Calvin Harris and Gnarls Barkley. Dapuntobeat is set to perform in New York City at this year’s Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) Indie showcase at the Mercury Lounge along with Torreblanca and Ulises Hadjis.
