[8/22] Preview: Tejano Birthday Bash featuring Ram Herrera, Hugo Guerrero, JR Gomez, and Calle Seis

Tonight it’s another all-star birthday bash at Blue Moon Bar and Grill. Tejano superstar Ram Herrera will be joining the fun along with Hugo Guerrero, JR Gomez and Calle Seis to celebrate birthdays for Calle Seis band members Mario Vigil and Chris Rivera in style.

San Antonio native Ram Herrera, having been in the industry for over 30 years, has seen the genre rise and fall while remaining one of its most popular acts. The undisputed sex symbol with the big smooth voice first gained notoriety as lead singer for David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, before embarking on an extraordinarily successful solo career, which has earned him a Grammy nomination and numerous music awards, as well as recognition for his humanitarian efforts. His most recent album, En El Amor, is available in record stores and online.

New Braunfels-based Guerrero, a veteran of Tejano music, having spent many years with his previous band, Fandango USA. While enjoying steady popularity, the group’s biggest hit was “La Charanga.” Most recently, the keyboardist and vocalist released a new single, “Subele,” featuring Tejano legend Ruben Ramos.

Austin’s own JR Gomez is a well-known vocalist and accordionist, and frequent guest all around town. The multi-talented performer is known for his tenure with Tejano superstar Jay Perez and with A.B. Quintanilla and the Kumbia All Starz.

Rounding out the lineup is one of Austin’s most versatile bands, Calle Seis. Considered by some to be a Tejano music “super group,” Calle Seis features Grammy Award-winning personnel who also perform with a few of the genre’s most popular and highly-regarded acts including  Little Joe y La Familia, and Ruben Ramos and the Mexican Revolution.

Long story short: Party time, Tejano style. The $3 cover charge is a steal for talent like this. Party begins at 9 p.m.

The Blue Moon Bar and Grill is located at 2200 S IH 35 at the northeast corner of Oltorf and I-35, next to Best Western. Cover charge is $3 all night long. 21+ welcome. View the Facebook event here.
