Tonight is the next installment of the East Side Latin Jam at The Sahara Lounge. Curated by Austin-based musician and Latino singer-songwriter Kiko Villamizar, the biweekly event is an open forum for musicians and artists to “jam” Latino estyle together and express themselves, even through poetry. No Latin-based genre is discriminated against. The $5 cover helps organizers sustain the jam session while covering the cost of a buffet that includes a vegan version of the Colombian food Villamizar cooks up himself.
After tonight’s jam, Sahara Lounge will also feature Austin-based hip hop duo Krudas Cubensi. In addition to performing their own Spanish language hip hop songs, which lean more towards the lyrical conscious umbrella of hip hop if there was such a thing, MCs Odaymara Cuesta (Pasa Kruda) and Olivia Kruda Prendes will open up the mic to attendees to rhyme with the duo or “spit that spoken word” with them. Krddas Cubensi perform at midnight.
The Sahara Lounge is located at 1413 Webberville Rd. Doors open at 9 p.m. $5 cover. 21+ welcome. Crafts by Las Ofrendas will also be available for purchase at tonight’s jam session. Visit the official Facebook event page here.
