Austin-based Latin Fusion band Cilantro Boombox will be providing the jams all night long at with an extra long set at Frank this Friday night. Those in town for the interactive portion of South By Southwest will not want to miss one of the most unique Afro-Latin fusion bands our city has to offer. Support will come from Austin-based turntablists DJ Jah Karma (Eddie Russ) and K2DJ.
Austin’s answer to Los Amigos Invisibles, Cilantro Boombox formed when producer/bassist Felix Pacheco and Joe Willard of saxophonist Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears fame came together in 2010. Their unique brand of Afro-Latin fusion or “bilingual funk” incorporates elements of hip hop, salsa, electronica and reggae. Their debut self-titled album was released in September of 2012 and was mixed by none other than Adrián Quesada of Grupo Fantasma and Brownout.
