[3/22] Preview: Duína Del Mar at Flamingo Cantina

March 20, 2013 By Austin Vida Staff

Universal Records recording artist Duína del Mar is in Austin post South By Southwest for a headlining performance at Flamingo Cantina this Friday, Mar. 22. She will perform some of her hit singles including “Soy lo que Soy” and “Muevelo Tuti,” as well as her current single “Todo” from her upcoming new album Natural, set for release this summer. For those who missed del Mar at the Pan Americana Festival last week, this is a great opportunity to see the Colombian pop artist in an intimate setting.

Joining Duína del Mar will be Austin-based Suns of Orpheus (SOO), Austin’s Brazilian answer to bands like Steely Dan. Fronted by Brazilian born guitarist and songwriter Frederico Geib, the group fuses together elements of Brazilian-inspired funk, pop and psych-rock. While difficult to classify, the music is easy to enjoy.

Also on the bill is Brazilian born singer, producer, film score composer and instrumentalist Tita Lima (pronounced like “Chita”). Her music is a unique mix of bossa nova/samba with soul and tropical pop. Lima is a natural fit to play with SOO, as she had them as her backing band during South By Southwest in 2012. Lima has also performed in Austin at Pachanga Fest with The Echocentrics, one of the many bands that feature musician/producer Adrian Quesada.

Flamingo Cantina is located at 515 E. 6th Street. Doors open at 9 p.m. 21+ are welcome. Cover is $10 at the door. Visit the Facebook event page for other details and set times here.
