Watch: Vinyl Dharma rocks Sixth Street during SXSW

Vinyl Dharma plays a spontaneous set on Sixth Street

Spontaneity is a big part of the fun and appeal of South by Southwest. You can walk the streets of downtown Austin and not be sure what sort of party or performance you might stumble upon, but you know—you can feel it—that something eventful is around the corner.

That was the case on the Saturday of SXSW when one of our favorite local indie rock bands, Vinyl Dharma, set up their gear in the middle of a packed Sixth Street and played for an hour and a half.

Here’s what the band had to say about it on Facebook: “Just like that, we set up right in the middle of the street. Didnt ask for permission, just did our thing for 1 hr and 30min, and then left. Straight up gangsta style!”

Check out this video of Vinyl Dharma playing a cover of Joy Division’s “Shadowplay” on Sixth Street.
