The name Ana Tijoux became better known after collaborating with Julieta Venegas on her hit “Eres Para Mi,” but the French-born Chilean master of ceremonies first started rhyming in French after her family moved back to Chile from exile in France. She’s gone from the MC in the hip-hop group Makiza to having her hit single, “1977”, featured on the TV show “Breaking Bad.” Not only has she broken into mainstream Latin American audience, but she has also toured in Europe and performed at Lollapalooza and South by Southwest.
Her Grammy nominated album, 1977, has built nothing but anticipation for her latest album, La Bala, due on January 31. The 11-track record features collaboration with Academy award winner Jorge Drexler. ‘Till the release of the album, Tijoux debuts the video to her lead single, “Shock,” where she brings attention to the student protests asking for quality education in Chile.
