On Friday, October 26 at H & H Ballroom, Austin’s Tejano musicians will come together to benefit one of their own, Marcelo Gauna. With a transplant needed in the near future, Gauna is currently battling kidney failure and, like many musicians, is struggling with the cost of his medical care.
Gauna comes from a talented musical family, recording as Los Hermanitos Gauna in the 1970s. A versatile musician who can play everything from accordion to bajo sexto to keyboards, Gauna also played with Austin Tejano groups Yayo Castillo y Rumores and Alma Tejana (now known as the A-T Boyz). He also recorded and toured with Joe King Carrasco, a gig that took him all over the world.
Gauna himself will be playing, backed up by some longtime musical brothers and friends. Also scheduled to perform are Yayo Castillo y Rumores, Cinco Doce, Poder Norteño, and more.
H & H Ballroom is located at 4402 Brandt Road, east of I-35 and Slaughter Lane in South Austin. Doors open at 6 p.m. Music starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $10. All ages are welcome. Visit the event post on Facebook here.
