The next edition of the Hola Indio, tour a cross collaboration tour between VICE and Indio Cerveza, comes to Red 7 on Saturday, September 29. The tour is dedicated to showcasing the cross-influence of Mexican and American cultures in contemporary music and art. Each party will feature one Mexican headliner and local bands or DJs while showcasing two art pieces, both produced collaboratively by a Mexican artist and American artist. The third of four parties to hit Austin, the tour will benefit the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA).
Saturday’s headliner is Tijuana-based “spook-pop” artist Dani Shivers (You Schaffner of Ibi Ego). Her lo-fi brand of witch house fuses toy keyboards, sound effects from horror films and aggressive electronic dance music elements. Shivers’ full-length debut Jinx was released in 2011, on the Tijuana-based cassette-only label Prima Crush.
Supporting Shivers are Austin-based Feathers and Peilgrosa frontman DJ Orión. Mexican artists Yurex Omazkin and Edgar Orlaineta will showcase original works produced in collaboration with Ryan Travis Christian and Deitch Projects alumn Evan Gruzis. To RSVP, visit http://rsvp.vice.com/holaindio/.
Red 7 is located at 611 East 7th Street. Attendees will enter in the alley way entrance. Doors open at 9 p.m. 21+ are welcome. Donate at least $1 to the National Museum of Mexican Art to get in, and the drinks and music are on the promoters. Visit the event post on Do512 here.
