Movimiento Rockero is a group of Austin-based Latin rock and alternative bands uniting to raise awareness and support for the genre in Austin and beyond. The collective debuted in 2011 with Thursday night showcases at Ruta Maya on South Congress. This year the showcases moved to Wednesday nights at the legendary Austin music venue Antone’s. The next Movimiento Rockero showcase of 2012 will be Wednesday, August 8.
This month’s installment will be headlined by co-founder Vitera. A long time Austin favorite, Vitera may be the only group around that mixes classic ’80s style rock en Español and modern rock with a violin. Vitera is performing in support of their latest album, ¡Súbete!.
Also on the bill Wednesday night are Austin-based rock en Español band Dragon Rojo. A regular among the rockero scene in Austin, the group recently opened up for Panteon Rococo.
Formed by Alfredo Ramirez and Michael Gonzalez in 2010, The Movimiento Rockero showcase newcomers Blessing & The Curse bring their classic rock influenced sound to the show. The Austin-based quartet are performing in support of their EP, Just Like You.
In addition to the live music offerings, attendees have the chance to win a ticket to the Iron Maiden concert in San Antonio happening on August 15 at The AT&T Center. Whoever brings the most friends with them to the show will win. Let the staff know at the door or tell your friends when they arrive to let them know they came based on your recommendation. Attendees must be present in order to win.
Antone’s is located at 213 West 5th St. All ages are welcome. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9. Advance tickets are available here. Cover will be $7 at the door. Visit the event page on Facebook here and on Do512 here.
