Friday, June 22, is a great night for Latin Music in Austin. With so many great showcases with affordable covers happening all over town, there is no reason to stay home. For fans of Latin fusion, cumbia and traditional Son Jarocho, the Flamingo Cantina is where you want to be for the Americano Records showcase.
Headlining is the “barrio big band” from San Antonio, Bombasta. The nine-piece Latin fusion band mixes styles and instrumentations effortlessly as their lyrics travel between Spanish and English. Often referred to as San Antonio’s answer to Ozomatli, Bombasta are known for energetic live shows and being socially conscious.
Master Blaster Sound System is a Latin fusion band that specializes in what they refer to as “cumbia crunk.” The band incorporates electronic toys, live beats and a full band push the live show envelope and serve as a bridge between DJ culture, live music performances and the cumbia underground.
The Corpus Christi-based producer El DUSTY will be doing his thing on the before he joins his band Master Blaster Sound System. He’ll get the party going early with his personal DJ stylings that include electro-cumbia, hip hop and traditional Latim rhythms.
