[12/8] Preview: Rey Reyna & Aftershock at Texas Mist

On Saturday, Dec. 8, Tejano fans will get a chance to give Rey Reyna & Aftershock a big welcome to the Live Music Capital of the World. The DFW favorites will make their Austin debut at Texas Mist in southeast Austin.

With prominent keyboards and synthesizers, and influences from a variety of other genres, the group’s sound is pure 1990s Tejano gold. Reyna has a sweet R&B-style voice that is well suited for this flavor of Tejano. Their first album, Piensalo Bien, included the ranchera “La Tejanita,” as well as several other hits. Their second album, Solo Yo, included a fine Tejano interpretation of the Stevie Wonder classic “My Cherie Amour,” complete with accordion! Their upcoming album, Contigo, will be released soon, featuring the single “Con Amor.”

Long story short: If you remember the glory days of Tejano during the Selena era, you won’t be disappointed.

Texas Mist is located at 1115 Bastrop Highway, off the northbound side of Highway 183, just north of Hwy 71, in southeast Austin. The cover charge is $8 before 9 p.m., $10 after 9 p.m. 21+ are welcome.
