On Friday, Dec. 21, unless the world ends earlier in the day, Santa Rosa,Texas-based and Freddie Records artist Siggno comes back to Tejano Ranch. Their big time stage show, and catalog full of classics, latest hits and new songs hot off the presses from their brand new album, will be enough to blow the roof off the north Austin club.
Siggno is hard to classify. While they are arguably the hottest group in Tejano music right now, they also won the 2008 Latin Grammy for best Norteño album, and frontman Jesse Turner played drums for Conjunto legend Ruben Vela. Looking at their eyeliner and heavy makeup on stage, they could be mistaken for a late ’80s metal band, but there’s also a bit of urban hipness to Turner himself.
Defying labels and expectations has definitely paid off for the band, as they are riding high on a wave of success that is rarely seen in Tejano music these days. And they’re having a great time too. They are famous for always making time for their fans, doing meet and greet events, and for chronicling their hijinks in their Siggno Adventures on YouTube. Their new album, El Mundo Se Acabo was just released this week, with great response from fans and radio stations alike.
The multi-talented Turner writes songs, plays accordion and a number of other instruments, and also took home Best Male Vocalist honors at the 2011 and 2012 Tejano Music Awards, snapping the 8-year winning streak of Tejano superstar Jay Perez in the category. His award-winning duets with Elida Reyna have also been enormously popular, helping to further propel both of them into superstar status.
Long story short: Siggno couldn’t be hotter and the guys always put on a great show. Aside from the dance floor, it may be standing room only. At some point, expect them to outgrow Tejano Ranch and need a larger venue to accommodate their massive popularity in the ATX.
Tejano Ranch is located at 7601 North Lamar, just south of Highway 183 in north Austin. The doors open at 8 p.m. The cover charge is $12 before 9 p.m, and $15 cover after 9 p.m. 18+ are welcome. Visit the event page on Facebook here.
