It was at our Austin Vida Free Week showcase at Red 7 last where Austin punk rock veterans The Sweethearts made their return to the stage after a year long hiatus. With a new drummer and recharged energy, the group is wasting no time returning to the stage again. The Sweethearts perform a headlining show tonight, Friday the 13th, at Flamingo Cantina. Be ready to stay late as they take the stage at 12:30am.
While The Sweethearts are the night’s headliners, they are performing with three note-worthy bands from San Antonio. As we have known for years and were reminded once again last week during Free Week, San Antonio is home to some of the best Latino musicians in the country from all musical genres, but especially hardcore genres like punk rock.
The night’ opening band is a young math-rock quartet on indie label Mighty Walrus Records, Cantaloupe St. Pierre. San Antonio veteran punk trio Nada Mas Basura follow and the Latin influenced Reggae-Punk band Viet-Ruse co-headline.
