The final edition of the Hola Indio tour, a cross collaboration tour between VICE and Indio Cerveza, comes to Red 7 on Friday, November 2, as part of the Fun Fun Fun Fest ‘Nites aftershow series. The tour is dedicated to showcasing the cross-influence of Mexican and American cultures in contemporary music and art. The event will feature one Mexican headliner and local bands or DJs while showcasing two art pieces, both produced collaboratively by a Mexican artist and American artist. Friday’s installment of the tour will benefit the National Museum of Mexican Art (NMMA).
Headlining Friday’s event is Monterrey, Mexico producer and mix-master Toy Selectah (Toy Hernández). As a producer, Hernández has worked with some of the biggest names in music including Calle 13, Cypress Hill and Café Tacvba to name a few. A founding member of the Mexican hip hop group Control Machete, Hernández now serves as Creative Director, A&R and CEO of his own production company and boutique label Sones del Mexside.
Co-headlining the bill with Toy Selectah will be San Antonio-based DJ/producer Mexicans With Guns performing as “Gun Selectah.” The lucha masked DJ is Exponential Records honcho Ernest Gonzales. Learn more about Gonzalez in our 2009 feature here. Other special guest DJs include Brooklyn-based BAIO and Peligrosa leader DJ Orión.
Red 7 is located at 611 East 7th Street. Attendees will enter in the alley way entrance. Doors open at 10 p.m. 21+ are welcome. Donate at least $1 to the National Museum of Mexican Art to get in, and the drinks and music are on the promoters. To RSVP, visit http://rsvp.vice.com/holaindio/.
