Influenced by the South American psychedelic rock of the ’60s, some Velvet Underground and David Bowie, Capsula, Spanish for capsule, based their name off Bowie’s song “Space Oddity.” After forming in Argentina in 1998, the sonic psychedelic garage-rock trio headed to Europe, but that was only the beginning. Since then, they have toured in the U.S., South America, U.K., and Europe.
Capsula will make its fourth appearance at South by Southwest next year, but until then, their latest album, In The Land Of Silver Souls, and their Christmas cover of “I Wanna be your Boyfriend” by The Ramones will at least get us through the holidays. In their video release of “I Wanna be your (Girlfriend),” the band wears matching Santa Claus hats while bass player Coni Duchess exchanges “boyfriend” for “girlfriend.”
